What is All-on-4?

A dental implant is a titanium post surgically placed in your jaw to replace your tooth roots and hold your replacement teeth in place. All-on-4 implants use four strategically placed implants in your upper arches, lower arches, or both to provide a stable base for your dentures.

Your custom-made set of dentures connect to the implants — much like your teeth connect to their roots — so they don’t sit directly on top of your gums. When compared to removable dentures, All-on-4 dental implants look, feel, and function exactly like your natural teeth.

What are the advantages of having All-on-4 implants?

The All-on-4 system offers the convenience and stability of dental implants at a fraction of the cost and time. The most valuable benefits of All-on-4 dental implants include:

Time

Traditional dental implants require several weeks of healing after the initial implant surgery. Meanwhile, the team can place your All-on-4 implants on the same day.

Appearance

Since the team places your All-on-4 implants on the same day as your surgery, you never have to leave the office without a full set of teeth.

Cost

A full mouth of traditional single implants can be costly, but All-on-4 implants require only four implants in the upper arch and four in the lower.

Comfort

An alternative to removable dentures, All-on-4 implants allow you to eat your favorite foods, speak clearly, and smile without feeling self-conscious. These secure implants look and feel so much like your natural teeth that you might not realize you have them over time.

Bone preservation

Without a tooth root, the bone in your jaw will eventually deteriorate, which often causes patients to lose their natural facial structure and makes it difficult for dentures to sit on top of your gums properly. All-on-4 implants replace your tooth roots to prevent bone resorption and preserve the natural structure of your face.

How are All-on-4 dental implants placed?

When placing traditional dental implants, you need an adequate amount of bone throughout your jaw to hold the implants. Fortunately, because the team strategically places All-on-4 implants in areas of the jawbone that already have a healthy amount of bone, you likely won’t need a bone graft.

Once the practice designs your implant placement plan using a combination of digital X-rays and CT scans, you’re ready to come in for your surgical appointment. During this visit, the team administers anesthesia so you’re as comfortable as possible.

Next, your provider surgically inserts the implants into the jaw — typically two in the front and two in the back. While your mouth heals, you’ll wear temporary dentures, so you’re never without teeth.
